Description
Hansel and Gretel was first performed by the repertory company at The Palace Theatre, Westcliff, in 1993/4. It was commissioned for a cast of just 7 and makes an ideal Christmas show for a professional company. Hansel and Gretel, cast out of their home on Christmas morning by their cruel stepmother, are lured to the Witch’s cottage by the Troll. It is Gretel’s quick thinking which enables both children to escape, but only back into the forest where more dangers await them.
The show is lighthearted, fast-moving and funny, and contains plenty of audience participation. At the same time it has an important message about the dangers of taking sweets from strangers.
